From
Akihabara News:
Sony expands its car GPS range with two new models in the XYZ series, the ones that run on LINUX and display the majority of Tokyo's streets in 3D. Expect a price lower than 2000 EUR for these GPS systems.
NASA's World Wind software lets you zoom from satellite altitude into any place on Earth. It is quite simply the coolest piece of software I have ever come across, and it is totally free. You need a fast Internet connection and a solid computer with a good video card to really enjoy World Wind. If you get into geoblogging you can use World Wind to obtain the latitude and longitude for any point on the planet.
Here is the download link (180 MB).
It's been lots of fun playing with Flickr the past few weeks. One of the coolest things I have discovered is
Geobloggers, a site that combines Google Maps and Flickr so you can see photos taken from different map locations.
Here's how it works:
1. Tag your flickr photos with latitude and longitude data. You can use
http://www.geocoder.us/ to acquire lat and lon, but I prefer using
World Wind. After you find the latitude and longitude values for your picture, add the following 3 tags to your flickr photo: "geo:lat=[latitude value]", "geo:lon=[longitude value]", and "geotagged".
2. Go to Geobloggers and find your picture:
Here is San Francisco, but you can change lat and lon values for other cities.
It might take a little while for geobloggers to pick up the RSS stream for your picture. To speed the process up, add a link to www.geobloggers.com in your picture description. After you log out, come back to the picture and click on the geobloggers link. If it works, you should be taken to the geobloggers google map and be able to find your picture.
Now that I've tagged a couple of photos, I am totally hooked and I want to geotag every one of my flickr photos.

Sarah and some friends left for Yosemite yesterday, but not before we stopped at Stow Lake to hang with the birds. We didn't see any Cormorant's swimming around or drying their wings, but this Egret walked right by us. He was so focused on looking for food that he didn't even notice us.

The baby Geese were making the rounds with their parents but the there were only 2 babies. The third one must have died.
